GT50, a Net Service Group company, has supported the Italian Red Cross (CRI) in a major digital transformation project that makes CRI the first organisation in Italy to introduce a fully paperless system for issuing service driving licences and vehicle registration documents.

The solution is based on Timbro Digitale Lambda, the cloud platform developed by GT50 that ensures legal validity even when natively digital documents are printed. At the heart of the system is the Lambda Seal, a smart QR code embedded in the digitally signed document. It links in real time to the original version, stored in a secure, encrypted repository in full compliance with the GDPR.

For the Italian Red Cross, the new system has completely replaced the paper format for service driving licences and vehicle registration documents. This has reduced operating costs and made documents immediately available to CRI personnel. Each volunteer can now print their own digital licence on plain paper, with a fully readable QR code that can be verified online through a dedicated microservice built into the platform.

The transition has been officially recognised by the Italian Ministry of the Interior – Department of Public Security, which has issued a circular to Prefectures and law enforcement agencies to ensure the validity of the new format nationwide.

The project was launched in March 2025 with a pilot phase. It reached its first major milestone on 18 June, when the Italian Red Cross announced the official start of digital licence issuance. Integration for vehicle registration documents will be completed in July 2025.

The Timbro Digitale Lambda platform, already used by major public and private organisations, is included in the catalogue of digital infrastructure and cloud services of ACN, Italy’s National Cybersecurity Agency. With this project, GT50 confirms its role in enabling secure, compliant document digitalisation, even in operationally complex sectors such as emergency services and mobility.
